Event Details

The Blockley Pourhouse at 38th & Ludlow Streets will be hosting Songs for Strays, a concert benefiting the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 7:30 pm.  Proceeds from this event will support the opening of the PAWS Spay/Neuter and Wellness Center in Philadelphia, anticipated to open in early 2010. Tickets can be purchased at www.pawsbenefit.eventbrite.com for $7 until January 30, 2010. After January 30th tickets are $10. They can also be purchased at the door for $10.

Hosted by Radio 104.5's Wendy Rollins, Songs for Strays will feature several alternative rock/pop punk bands, including Goodnight Lights, Practically Single and The Canon Logic.

Since 2008, Goodnight Lights has performed at various venues throughout Philadelphia. The release of their self-titled album in April 2009 has brought new musical opportunities as Goodnight Lights continue to expand their fan base.

Practically Single emerged into the Philadelphia music scene in March 2009, where they continue to reside. Practically Single is currently representing Philadelphia in the Pac Sun Battle of the Bands finals, a competition with a grand prize of a live performance on Fuel TV’s “Daily Habit.”

Originally from the Philadelphia area, The Canon Logic relocated to Brooklyn in 2007, where they focused on discovering a new sound. They have been featured on Vans Warped Tour, The Music Inspires Health Tour and Current TV. The Canon Logic’s debut full-length album FM Arcade will be released in spring of 2010.

Located in the Grays Ferry section of the city, the PAWS Spay/Neuter and Wellness Center aims to serve pet owners who have difficulty affording or do not have access to basic veterinary care. Rescue organizations that need affordable spay/neuter surgery and basic veterinary care to carry out their lifesaving work will also use the facility.

The money raised will help PAWS continue to provide pets with access to a safe and healthy environment,” says a Drexel senior. “It’s important that the city’s pet owners are aware of their options.”

PAWS, the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is the city’s largest rescue organization and only no-kill shelter. For more information, please visit www.phillypaws.org.
